Best fill up today before the price hike on March 1…
UAE motorists, you might just want to pull into the petrol station on your way home from work today. The UAE petrol prices for March 2021 have been announced, and starting tomorrow you’re going to be paying more at the pump.
From March 1, Super 98 will be Dhs2.12 per litre, increasing by 11 per cent on the current price of Dhs1.91. Special 95 will cost you Dhs2.01 per litre at the pump, an increase of 11.7 per cent on February’s price of Dhs1.80. Diesel will come in at Dhs2.15 per litre, up 7 per cent from Dhs2.01 in February.
It’s the first time we’ve witnessed a price change for Super 98 and Special 95 in a long time, with the last price shift recorded in April 2020. Back then, at the start of the lockdown, fuel prices for Super 98 dropped from Dhs2.24 in January and February to Dhs2.16 in March, before settling at Dhs1.91 in April.
The price for Super 98 then stayed steady at Dhs1.91 for 11 months, until today’s change.

Here are the UAE fuel prices for Super 98 in 2021 so far.
January: Dhs1.91
February: Dhs1.91
March: Dhs2.21
All prices include the five per cent VAT.
The UAE’s Ministry of Energy first began setting fuel prices based on average global prices in August 2015. Prior to that, the price of petrol in the UAE was subsidised by the government, which shielded consumers from global fluctuations in the cost of petrol.

The format of the restaurant hadn’t changed in a very long time, but now that’s all set to change. Solutions Leisure, the team behind Lock, Stock & Barrel, Baby Q and STK are taking it over and it sounds super exciting.
The team will take over the management and running of the venue for the next six weeks before giving it a complete revamp over Ramadan, turning it into an entirely new beach bar and restaurant concept, no doubt worthy of the excellent location.
Whilst the exact details are yet to be revealed, we’re sure we can expect great things. There’s a huge outdoor space which wraps round a circular bar, perfect for watching the sunset, as well as an expansive indoor and outdoor restaurant,
Paul Evans, Co-Founder and CEO of Solutions Leisure Group, said: “This new chapter with Dukes The Palm and Seven Tides will bring a breath of fresh air to the Palm Jumeirah, and we look forward to embarking on this next journey with such a dynamic, innovative and driven enterprise that share in our vision for trust, and our passion for people-centric venue and experience design.”

The fee has been introduced to stop drivers abusing the free spaces…
Dubai Municipality has introduced new parking fees for Dubai drivers visiting Zabeel Park, Garden Glow and Dubai Frame. The entrance to the park has been gated off to ensure drivers must pay for their parking, when staying longer than 20 minutes.
The first 20 minutes are free of charge to customers, however anything longer than that will cost Dhs10 for the rest of the day. Whether you stay 30 minutes or six hours, the fee for parking will be Dhs10. The fee has been introduced to stop drivers abusing the free spaces.
Monthly access cards have also been introduced, to offer regular visitors a more cost effective method of paying parking fees. Many keen joggers enjoy running around Zabeel Park, and have been offered a rate of Dhs120 per month to park while they jog.
Residents around the Zabeel Park area have also been offered a monthly pass, which is priced at Dhs200. Residents and joggers can apply for a parking permit by calling Dubai Municipality directly.
The parking area also serves visitors of Dubai Garden Glow and Dubai Frame. The popular attractions each have additional entrance fees, priced at Dhs65 and Dhs50, respectively.

Modern Indian dining as you’ve never experienced before…
We must admit that you almost didn’t have the pleasure of reading this review. We were reluctant to revisit Tresind, the modern Indian dining restaurant on Sheikh Zayed, not because we didn’t enjoy our experience there five years ago, because we did. It’s just that we typically try to focus our attention on reviewing new restaurants, otherwise we’d be the size of houses. But, having been persuaded by a trusted friend to give it a go again, we walked out the door having learned a valuable lesson: Never underestimate the talents of chef Himanshu Sami again.
Tresind Studio is the chef’s table experience serving only 20 guests per service. It’s hidden behind a door in the larger Tresind restaurant, and manages to be refined with its legion of well-trained staff and yet still deliver food with serious kick and intent.
Chef Himanshu has chosen Le Jardind (Gardens of India) for this season’s menu, which means that the rectangular room looks a bit like a garden centre meets university dorm room with hundreds of potted plants lining the windowsills, complete with garish floral blinds. It’s a little kitsch for our taste but what matters is the strident, full-on food that embraces herbs and floral flavours within each dish.
Over the course of the next two hours we’re treated to 13 jaw-dropping dishes (Dhs395 set menu), beautiful both in presentation and taste. The traditional pani puri is elevated to otherworldly levels as we’re presented with a tall vase of smoking cucumber liquid, which is poured into two delicate puffs. You can try eating them daintily but you’ll get the contents down your shirt. It’s far better to slip the whole thing in your mouth in one go. There’s the crunch and then the burst of fresh cucumber sweetness as well as the final kick that’ll make your eyes pop.
The star dish comes early amid the starters. Served in a beautiful black bowl filled with water and floating flowers rested a lamb tartlet topped with turnip, and nasturtium leaf. A delicious piece of art.
From the curries the butter chicken broth is an outrageous cup of tangy yellow cloying goodness served with a charred yet tender chicken skewer. We slurp loud and proud enjoying each pungent swig.
The chaat, eloquently placed on a plate surrounded by real roses, has an inbuilt culinary timer. You get the sweetness of the chutney and the fresh crunch of the fried bread fritter first, before the sudden punch of spice heat.
We could go on describing each of the 13 dishes in detail but we wouldn’t want to spoil the culinary surprises of Chef Himanshu. A unique restaurant, a masterful gastronomic experience that’s worth returning to again and again. Tresind Studio feels like a mature business well into its stride.
Voco Hotel, Mon to Sat, 7pm to 11pm, Dhs395 for the set menu. Tel: (0)43080440. tresindstudio.com

As this year marks 50 years since the unification of the emirates, the leaders of the UAE are in the midst of paving the way for the next half a century.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, are currently leading a government retreat to discuss and layout plans for the future success of the country.
Per WAM, the UAE’s state news agency, discussing their meeting publicly, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed showcased his unwavering support for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, stating the country and its people will preserve the Dubai Ruler’s goal to remain “number one”.
The Crown Prince of Dubai also reflected on the “solid foundation” the founding leaders of the country, Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid, laid for the UAE.

“The UAE has reached where it is today, thanks to the values of tolerance and coexistence that the founding leaders Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid established from the beginning of our journey,” he said. “The last 50 years were filled with prosperity, development and success, and we will need to move at a greater speed to meet our growing ambitions for the next 50 years.
“Our government teams in the next phase will only welcome people who will exert 10 times more efforts and energy to achieve greater successes. Our vision is to make the UAE an attractive destination for talents, ideas and investment.
“We will preserve Mohammed bin Rashid’s principle of always being number one.”

Sheikh Mohammed also returned the public statement of support for his “brother” Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, outlining that following the success of the Mars Hope Probe that the dreams for the UAE “will be even bigger for the next 50 years”.
“We have reached this far because the impossible does not exist in the UAE,” he added. “We have the scientific, educational and economic resources to take the UAE to new frontiers in the next 50 years, and we have Mohamed bin Zayed to lead this journey.”

Give your home instant character with a DIY herringbone wood ceiling! This tray ceiling idea is perfect for a modern farmhouse entryway.

DIY Tray Ceiling Update with Reclaimed Wood
We are big fans of interesting ceiling treatments, from the exposed beams in our current house (including the basement!) to a DIY beadboard ceiling and painting the ceiling as the 5th wall of your room.
Any ceiling can be improved by a facelift, but an inset tray ceiling in particular is a great place to add an accent ceiling idea (like this coffered wood ceiling).
A little rustic or reclaimed pallet wood made the ceiling the star of this beautiful entryway by Kimberly from @Home_Kimprovements. (She shared her daughter’s rainbow shiplap wall here recently, too!)
Pallet wood and other reclaimed wood is great for adding farmhouse style to any room in your home, on a budget — from an entire pallet wood ceiling to a kitchen backsplash or kitchen island, or even a wood headboard or coffee table or wooden TV frame!
Kimberly is our guest today to share how she and her husband installed this pallet wood ceiling in their entryway recessed tray ceiling.
We found an ad on Craigslist of a small company getting rid of pallets so we helped ourselves to their pile.
Read more about where to find pallets and how to choose good pallets HERE.
Materials and Tools
Pallet wood (we used about 10 pallets)
Nail gun
Finishing nails
Air compressor
Miter Saw
1×2’s (enough for the perimeter of the recessed space)
widget with tools
Step 1: Break Down the Pallets
We broke down the pallets and cut each piece of wood into 13” pieces and laid out the herringbone design we wanted.
See Justin’s tips for taking apart pallets (and keeping their character) here.
This is the time to put the best side up and make sure the colors in the woods evenly flow across the ceiling. We did not stain ours but feel free to stain or white wash or color wash, if you prefer.
Step 2: Hang Plywood Backing
We added pieces of 1/4” plywood to fit inside the recessed space so we had something to nail the wood pieces into. These were attached to the ceiling joists (similar to this other pallet wood ceiling tutorial).
Step 3: Install Pallet Wood Slats
We used a nail gun to nail each pallet wood piece into the plywood we installed.
We started around the light hold to avoid as many cuts as possible and worked our way out using the herringbone pattern.
Step 4: Cut Edge Pieces
Once you do all of the pieces before reaching the edge, you will need to cut down all of the pieces to fit the remaining gaps. Don’t worry if there is a small gap next to the wall.
Step 5: Add Frame
We framed around the edge to cover up any gaps using 1×2’s and cutting the edges at a 45 degree angle 📐 to meet at a point.
Step 6: Decorate
Make everyone look up and admire your ceiling by hanging some pretty wintry paper bag snowflakes! (See the tutorial and more here in Kimberly’s IG Stories.)
