The Arabian Gallery was a physical entity that was established by Motivate Media Group back in 1986 and has now expanded to a digital platform showcasing over 1000 works of local and world-renowned artists; photographers such as Sir Wilfred Thesiger, British royal photographer Lord (Patrick) Litchfield and even sculptures.

They are all available for you to purchase for a starting price of Dhs750. The options are vast, so set aside some time so you can scroll through the fantastic works.

They are categorised under Photographers, Painters and Sculptors with more categories to be added at a later date.

Under the photography section, you will be able to purchase prints by world-renowned names such as Patrick Litchfield, Ronald Codrai and Wilfred Thesiger. You can also find stunning photos by fabulous local and international talent such as Greg Newington, Jassim Al-Awadhi and more.

Under the painter’s section, you can scroll through a number of artworks from Andrew Vicari, Jassim Al-Awadhi, Najat Makki, Almudena Angoso, Khulood Al-Jabri and more.

Most of the artworks can even be framed for a reasonable cost before being shipped to you.

If you work or are in Media City, consider taking a small detour and head over to Media One to the 34th floor to the Motivate Media Office where an exhibition by Spanish artist, Almudena Angoso is taking place.

Her paintings are oil and mixed media based and she represents people from many cultures such as Africa, India, other places around Asia and much more in her work.

The works of art on display have been created in her art studio here in Dubai and are up for sale. The exhibit is only on until June 3, so head on over before then.

% Arabica launches futuristic new concept store in Abu Dhabi – Things To Do in Dubai

Something new is brewing in Marina Mall…

Have you ever thought, whilst sipping on your fresh barista-served coffee, ‘well this is nice, but I’d prefer it was happening inside the hab zone of a Martian satellite’… We’ve got some news for you.

It’s not space croissants, but @Elon please do get on that when you have a chance. It’s this absolutely stunning bit of minimalist design that constitutes coffee artisans, % Arabica’s new concept store.

Found in Abu Dhabi’s Marina Mall (a handy in-mall map to which is found below), the unique space features “a flexible and expandable” pod for brewing and serving pots of their acclaimed Joe; a retail wall giving coffee connoisseurs access to % merch such as backpacks, beans and brewing gadgets; and typewriter key style seating, which presumably performs that Scandanavian furniture miracle of looking uncomfortable but ending up actually being super snug.

% Gains

Looking closer, the design has some pretty clever little details. The idea for the store came from a creative team that included the brand’s founder, Kenneth Shoji and award-winning architect, Christ Precht.

The % logo is rendered multiple times throughout the space. For example the semi-circle doors on the % Pod rotate to their locked position which is a minimal interpretation of the logo, the peaking window representing a subtle slash.

The column at the store’s peripheree represents a slash between the two serving windows when viewed from a certain angle, and the pipes overhead could also be interperated as further slashes.

% Arabica at Marina Mall is now open and is serving up esspresso based coffee varieties from Dhs17.

A new floating platform means you can get even closer to Palm Fountains – Things To Do in Dubai

See the magical fountain show from a completely different angle…

If you have a Dubai bucket list there’s bound to be a dancing fountain show on there somewhere. Whilst for many years, Dubai Fountains at The Dubai Mall have been the star attraction, since The Palm Fountains launched at The Pointe on the Palm Jumeirah, they’ve been a massive hit.

Now you can see the spectacular Palm Fountains up close and from a completely different angle as a new floating platform has been erected in the water surrounding The Pointe. The new platform, which is free to visit, is brought to you by global sporting powerhouse Adidas as part of its adidas x Parley ‘Run for the Oceans campaign’.

Psst… the walkway is lit up in blue in the above picture so you can see just how close you’ll get… 

The floating track stretches 250km across the water. It’s free and open to the public every day from 6pm to 12am until June 8, so make sure you time it right to catch one of the dazzling dancing and musical fountain shows which run every half hour from 7pm right up until 1am, each day.

The global ‘Run for the Ocean’ campaign, which is back for its fourth year, aims to ‘urgently address the potentially devastating levels of marine plastic pollution in the oceans’. You’re invited to Unite and Run for the Oceans between May 28 and June 8 by signing up and tracking your runs via the adidas Running app. For every kilometer run, adidas will clean up the equivalent weight of 10 plastic bottles, up to a maximum of 500,000lbs.

Barasti’s huge fan zone tent is back for summer – Things To Do in Dubai

The place to be this summer…

Get ready sports fans, Dubai’s go-to destination for all things football is back. Barasti’s famed fan zone tent has returned, ready to provide the ultimate spot to celebrate the wins, mourn the losses, and make endless memories.

With the postponed Euro 2020 matches headed our way on June 11 2021, we need somewhere bursting with atmosphere to enjoy the live games as they happen. The fan zone has taken over the entire Middle Deck of the popular beach club.

A huge marquee has erected over the area, with plenty of air conditioning to see you through the summer months. Regulars of Barasti will know that the hotspot also likes to host live music nights throughout the summer, so we’re excited to see if the same will happen this year.

Previously, Barasti’s summer tent has seen themes such as the House of Whatever, with surprise concerts from Craig David and De La Soul. We’ve also seen Barasti transform into ‘The Lost World’, when the bar’s life-sized gorilla, Gorgeous George, was mysteriously stolen.

In addition to the fan zone, guests can still enjoy free entry to the pool, the beach and all that the long-standing beach bar has to offer. Barasti remains one of few venues to still offer complimentary pool access, all day every day.

Is it safe to get two different types of Covid-19 vaccine ? – Things To Do in Dubai

There are currently three vaccines approved for use in the UAE, but can you mix and match…?

The vaccines currently approved for use in the UAE are Pfizer/BioNTech, Sputnik V, and Sinopharm.

Although currently only Pfizer and Sinopharm are available at vaccination centres in Abu Dhabi residents in the UAE have benefited from the speed and efficiency with which authorities were able to acquire and mobilise the vaccines, with the country being placed at, or close to, the top in most Covid-19 vaccination rankings.

As of today (May 30, 2021) a total of 12,756,630 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country. That’s well over one per head, and closing in on the double dose goal figure for all those eligible to receive the jabs (excluding the under 12s, those with supressed immune systems etc).

Can I get another vaccine type after I’ve already been vaccinated ?

With the fact there are three different jabs widely available, it’s only natural ‘what if?’ thoughts turn to ‘doubling up on’ protection. Would it be beneficial, wise or even safe to get a vaccine from two different manufacturers? What does the research say? What do the authorities think?

The short answer to most of the questions concerning safety is that ‘we just don’t know yet’ — in principle, gathering antibodies as if they were Infinity Stones, is probably not the worst idea. However these jabs have only been around for the past 6 months, there is no long term research into any aspect of their efficacy, much less widespread studies of what happens when you treat your vaccine card like a child treats a Pic ‘n’ Mix bag.

What do the authorities say about taking vaccines from two different manufacturers ?

With little research available, what would likely be marginal gains from adoption, and because of limited global supply — most authorities around the world are currently choosing to err on the side of caution — advocating for sticking to one manufacturer. And the UAE certainly falls under that category.

The global pandemic is obviously an ongoing issue, with evolving fronts and new challenges arrising without warning. In situations like this, the best policy is a fluid one, adapting rules, regulations and recommendations in light of new evidence and new events. And if the suggestions on multi-jabbing change, we’ll make sure we let you know.

Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP)

The MOHAP website has a handy series of FAQ responses which include an answer to the question ‘Is it safe to take more than one type of covid – 19 vaccine?’ The answer provided is ‘No, it is not safe to take different types of Covid – 19 vaccine.’

National Emergency and Crisis Management Authority (NCEMA)

Like MOHAP, the Covoid-19 FAQ section on the NCEMA website currently states that it is not safe to take more than one type of Covid vaccine.

Dubai Health Authority (DHA)

We called the DHA to find out if they were accepting appointments for Pfizer from those that had already been innoculated by the Sinopharm vaccine (and vice versa). They responded with a confirmation that this is currently not permitted.

Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA)

SEHA also said that at the moment, they are advising people not to mix Pfizer with Sinopharm.

New Marks and Spencer food hall and Cafe at Yas Mall is opening soon – Things To Do in Dubai

This is not a drill, Colin the Caterpillar has already landed…

The main shopping section of everyone’s favourite bougie British boutique, Marks and Spencer (M&S) had already reopened at Yas Mall, towards the end of April. But it’s been missing certain popular elements.

Both the Cafe and massively expanded food hall are having their final coat of gastro-gloss applied, and their completion is imminent.

We’ve spoken to the team on the ground at Marks and Spencer, and they have confirmed that the Cafe will be opening at some point between Friday, June 4th and Sunday the 6th.

A small selection of food hall items are currently available to purchase at the Yas Mall store, including that iconic insect-inspired cake, Colin the Catepillar.

You can pick one up for Dhs80, and there are currently no laws to prevent you from eating the entire thing in your parked car before driving home. None.

If you literally can’t wait for another week, and who can blame you, thanks to streaming sites and instant delivery services — we’re living in a post-patience world, there are other M&S food halls already open elsewhere in Abu Dhabi.

And when this, the only M&S cafe in Abu Dhabi, reopens – we’re likely to see the return of Brit favourites such as fish and chips, signature jacket potatoes, elite-level sandwiches and the prawn makhani curry.
