We’re back today with another Fixer Upper “Get This Look” post. Today, we’re discussing the Little Shack on the Prairie kitchen! The home itself, was as you’d expect from the title, a true shack. The homeowners wanted to transform their new home into a farmhouse, but with an industrial spin. You’ll see these industrial details in multiple elements throughout the updated kitchen!

Open Concept

Let’s take a closer look at the details of this beautiful, open kitchen. In true Joanna fashion, the walls are covered in white shiplap. However, in this particular space, the shiplap feels less cottage-like and instead a bit more modern. Paired with the overhead wood beams and exposed metal elements, the kitchen has a much more industrial farmhouse vibe. If you want to install your own shiplap, you can get the look for FREE using this technique, or get a more traditional style following this tutorial or this one.

Concrete Countertops

The countertops appear to be concrete with a waterfall edge (like Karisa’s DIY kitchen island), once again contributing to that industrial vibe. The iron shelving unit that is mounted to the ceiling is a work of art and a great way to add extra storage in a kitchen that really only has one side of cabinets (and the look is similar to this IKEA hack shelf Medina shared here).

Industrial Touches

The duct work on the vent is left exposed, which is a unique element and focal point, as well.

The exterior doors in the room are painted black, to beautifully contrast with all the white in the room, and to tie in with some of the other elements in the Fixer Upper Little Shack on the Prairie kitchen. The barstools seamlessly tie all of these colors and textures together. We love the overall look and feel in this space!
