Happy August, Kuotes cuties! I have some exciting and inspiring news to share from KKH: We recently launched an amazing new assortment of art on our site! Kathy Kuo Home has always offered a dazzling selection for our customers who are shopping for art, but my buyers and I have been hard at work all summer long refreshing and revamping our art category to make it even better!
Now, you can easily shop a wide variety of art categories in order to discover pieces by size and scale (mini, small, medium, large, and oversize), medium (paintings, drawings, photography, and mixed-media), subject matter (florals and botanicals, people, seascapes, landscapes, animals and nature, and abstract), and by single piece, multipanel, diptych, or triptych format.
“Trust your instincts–if something catches your eye immediately, it’s probably meant to be. Art should bring the viewer emotion, inspiration, and you should enjoy looking at it everyday,” explains our KKH Art Expert Laurie Carroll. “Art is the way to bring a room together and show your personality! If you’re starting from scratch, consider buying a statement artwork first and designing the room around the piece.”
Still in search of some guidance as you embark on your shopping for art journey?
We’ve also crafted this handy guide. Read on and get ready to start mapping out your gallery wall! And of course, you can also always pop into Kathy Kuo Home Southampton to shop in-store exclusive art from some of my favorite artists.
Consider the Size & Format of Your Art
When shopping for art, size is often going to be the first factor to consider. Before you start perusing, evaluate your wall space carefully and determine how much square footage you ultimately want to fill. From there, ask yourself if you’d prefer one or two large or oversized pieces, or an assortment of medium and smaller pieces to form a gallery wall motif.
“It’s important to measure your space,” our KKH Art Expert Laurie Carroll says. “Have the size of your wall and furniture to hand when shopping for a piece, it makes the decision making easier.”
With the Kathy Kuo Home art assortment, we make it oh-so-easy to shop by size and scale–here’s what you’ll find in our size categories:
- Mini: Pieces of art under 16 inches on its longest side
- Small: Pieces of art between 17-24 inches on its longest side
- Medium: Pieces of art between 25-36 inches on its longest side
- Large: Pieces of art between 37-47 inches on its longest side
- Oversize: Pieces of art over 48 inches on its longest side
Additionally, we offer a robust categorical assortment of art by format–meaning you can purchase pieces in sets if you’re looking to fill a space with items that are explicitly meant to match as a set:
- Single-Piece: One standalone piece of artwork
- Diptych: Two pieces meant to be displayed side by side and sold together as a set
- Triptych: Three pieces meant to be displayed side by side and sold together as a set
- Multipanel: Artwork that spans several separate panels (more than three), meant to be displayed all together and sold as a set

Consider Art of Different Mediums
Different art mediums and techniques offer different visual qualities and evaluating and understanding the different types is a vital part of the shopping for art experience. That said, there’s no reason not to mix and match pieces of a different medium as long as the colors and overall styles complement one another well.
“Photography can be a great place to start learning which subject matter you’re drawn to. Have a look at Photos by Getty Images and Zoe Bios Creative photography selections to see different styles,” notes KKH Art Expert Laurie Carroll.

What Subject Speaks to You?
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, you’ll want to reflect on which subjects speak to you most deeply when it comes to visual artwork. Of course, there’s no need t be too rigid and only have art that falls under one subject in your home, but it can be helpful to look to broader subject categories and pull out a dominant theme when shopping for art.
“If you’re new to the subject of art and don’t know where to begin, try visiting a local museum to learn what you’re drawn to. Is it a landscape? Portrait? Painting? Photograph? The discovery of art is the fun part,” says KKH Art Expert Laurie Carroll. “Over time, you’ll learn what you’re attracted to and can focus on those areas.”
We are pleased to offer a wide variety of brand new subject groups for our art assortment, including:
