Hi cuties! I hope you’re all keeping warm and well with all the craziness going on with omicron and super-cold weather all over the US! Today’s post is a special one for all the Kuotes cuties who, like me, are busy parents out there doing it all…but still never want to sacrifice style, I am super excited to share some of the adorable baby and kids’ design ideas to try out this year.
Whether you’re designing a nursery for a new baby or aiming to spruce up your young child’s bedroom or playroom with some fresh pieces and new decor ideas, these four themes have something for everyone!
And honestly? Is there anything nursery furniture and decor for little kids? I don’t miss changing diapers, but I do miss the says when I could just live out every cutesy idea in mind without either of my kiddos telling me they wanted something different–but that’s motherhood for you!
Ok, without further ado, here are five fun ideas for baby and kids’ spaces that you need to definitely take the leap and try this year!
Oversized (And Oh-So-Stylish) Plush Toys
Is there anything cuter than a fuzzy lil’ plush toy animal? I would say that there is…a gigantic plush toy animal!
I love the look of collectible oversized stuffed toys–they’re whimsical, basically child-proof (read: impossible to break), and if taken care of over time, they can become really sweet heirlooms.
KKH has the literal cutest assortment or big collectible jungle animals and animal rockers. Lions, tigers, and bears from beloved brands like Steiff? Yep. And don’t forget about giraffes, unicorns, and alpacas (my personal favorite, as anyone who knows me can tell you!)

Inspired Bunkbeds
Ah bunkbeds–they’re not just for summer camp anymore! As a mama-of-two, I cannot say enough about the value of bunkbeds!
My kids share a bedroom in and it really wouldn’t be possible without our beloved Oeuf bunkbed.
If you’re on the fence about bunking up, here’s what you need to know:
- If you have kids sharing a room, bunkbeds will save you so much space…which can then be used for storage, desks, and play tables (aka: you add sooooo much utility to the room).
- Even if your kids aren’t sharing a bedroom, bunkbeds mean that you have a built-in space for sleepovers and for when relatives with kids come to stay.
- Most quality bunkbeds are able to be transformed into different configurations–add a trundle under the bottom bunk, remove the bottom bed and put a desk there, turn the bottom bunk into a seating area or daybed…the list goes on!
- Kids love bunkbeds. I’m sorry, I do not make the rules…but this is an undeniable truth!

Warm Neutrals & Cozy Textures
Your baby’s nursery is just as much a place for YOU as it is for your little one…so why not make it a space you love? Make sure that the KKH motto of “love where you live” applies to every single corner of your house!
I am obsessed with the idea of pairing warm neutrals and subtle spice tones with tons of cozy textures in a nursery. If it doesn’t feel like a fluffy nest made of sunshine, you deserve better!
Not only are colors like beige, nutmeg, cognac, sand, and peach all very warm and soothing, but they’re perfect if you want the space to feel gender-neutral and they go perfectly with natural furniture materials and super-duper cozy rug and blanket textures. Here’s your must-list:
- Rattan, and wicker accent pieces.
- Chunky knits everywhere–from stools to throw blankets.
- Warm-colored wood mixed with cheery white.
- A color palette that reminds you of stepping inside a chai latte.
- A rug with both a special texture and a special weave or pattern.

Lovely Layered Rugs
Don’t let anyone tell you that you need to limit yourself to just one rug! Layered rugs are popping up in every room of the home this year, but I especially love this design element in a nursery or playroom.
When it comes to kids’ design, it’s so important to remember that kids are constantly running around, falling down, and playing on the floor–why not make it soft, cozy, and safe by layering rugs? Plus it really does look great!
Start with a patterned anchor rug–this should be a piece that you love and that you can envision going the distance beyond the nursery–and layer with smaller textured rugs. I personally love a sheepskin fur throw to warm up any kids’ design and just add extra fluff and joy!

Boucle All Day
Okay I have to admit that I have saved the best for last! I cannot get enough of boucle right now! This fuzzy French fabric (“boucle” means “loop” or “curl” au Francais) is everywhere right now–and with good reason. It’s fancy yet versatile; high-fashion but somehow extremely warm and welcoming.
So of course, no surprise, boucle is absolutely perfect for a glider or rocking chair–I particularly love all of Babyletto’s boucle items–in your nursery or kids’ design.
Kids love the fun texture and whimsical look and you, mama, can enjoy the fact that boucle nursery pieces are just as chic as every other furniture choice in your home. Everyone wins!
